Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Arrange the sliced Italian bread in a single layer in an ungreased 13x9-inch baking dish. In a bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Spread this mixture over the bread slices and sprinkle with 1/2 cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese.
