Decadent Cookies and Cream Cake

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil, and egg whites. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then beat on high for 2 minutes. Gently fold in the crushed Oreo cookies.

Pour the batter into two greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them to wire racks to cool completely.

In a large bowl, beat the shortening, confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Spread the frosting between the cake layers and over the top and sides of the cake. If desired, decorate the top with whole Oreo cookies and the sides with crushed cookies.
