Hearty Beef and Tomato Lasagna
This comforting lasagna features layers of seasoned ground beef, tangy tomato sauce, and melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. The omission of ricotta cheese creates a unique and satisfying texture.
Instructions
-
1
In a large saucepan, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute longer, then drain the excess fat.
-
2
Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, pepper, and bay leaf. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 40-50 minutes, or until thickened.
-
3
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions, then drain them. Discard the bay leaf from the meat sauce, then stir in the chopped olives.
-

Spread a quarter of the meat sauce in a greased 13x9-inch baking dish. Top with three lasagna noodles, then a third of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat the layers twice more, then top with the remaining noodles, sauce, and cheese.

Bake the lasagna, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes, or until it is bubbly. Let the lasagna stand for 15 minutes before cutting and serving.
