Instructions

1
Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the milk and stir just until the dough is moistened (it will be soft and sticky).
-
2
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it into an 18x12-inch rectangle. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Arrange the chopped apples over the sugar mixture. Roll up the dough jelly-roll style, starting from a long side, and pinch the seam to seal. Using a serrated knife, cut the roll into 12 slices and place them cut-side down in a greased 13x9-inch baking pan.

3
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, flour, butter, and cinnamon for the sauce. Bring to a boil, whisking constantly, and cook for 3-4 minutes until thickened. Pour the sauce over the apple dumpling rolls.

Bake the rolls, uncovered, for 45-55 minutes, until they are golden brown and bubbly. Let the rolls stand for 10 minutes before serving.
