Meringue Cookies with Cherries, Dates, and Walnuts

Allow egg whites to come to room temperature for 30 minutes. Beat on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until stiff glossy peaks form and the sugar is dissolved. Gently fold in the walnuts, dates, and cherries.

Drop the meringue mixture by teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 300°F for 20-30 minutes, or until the cookies are firm to the touch. Allow to cool on the baking sheets for 1 minute before transferring to a wire rack. Store the cookies in an airtight container.
