In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat until no longer pink, breaking it into crumbles. Drain and transfer the sausage to a large bowl.

Stir the seasoned stuffing cubes, crushed cornbread stuffing, chopped chestnuts or pecans, minced parsley, sage, salt, and pepper into the bowl with the sausage.

In the same skillet, sauté the sliced mushrooms, chopped onion, apple, and celery in butter until tender. Stir the sautéed vegetables into the stuffing mixture.
