Braised Bavarian Beef with Sauerkraut

In a Dutch oven, brown the beef cubes in the canola oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef broth, sliced onions, minced garlic, and the spices (dill seed, caraway seeds, paprika, salt, and pepper). Cover and simmer for 2-1/2 hours, or until the beef is very tender.

In a small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and cold water until smooth. Gradually stir this mixture into the beef mixture in the Dutch oven. Cook and stir for 2 minutes to thicken the sauce. Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream. Serve the braised beef over hot cooked rice, with the warmed sauerkraut on the side.
