Braised Beef Rouladen with Bacon and Onions
Tender beef rolls are stuffed with savory bacon and onions, then simmered in a rich, flavorful broth for a comforting, old-fashioned dish. The tender beef and aromatic filling make this a truly satisfying meal.
Instructions
-
1
Spread Dijon mustard evenly over each slice of beef, then season with salt and pepper. Place a bacon strip and a few onion wedges on each slice, then roll up and secure with toothpicks.
-
2
In a large skillet, brown the beef rolls in the canola oil over medium-high heat until no longer pink, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain any excess fat.
-
3
Add the beef broth to the skillet, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour and 45 minutes, or until the beef is very tender.
-
4
Remove the beef rolls from the skillet and keep warm. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and water until smooth, then gradually stir the mixture into the simmering broth. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until the gravy has thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
-
5
Return the beef rolls to the gravy and heat through, about 5 minutes. Remove the toothpicks and serve the braised beef rouladen garnished with fresh parsley, if desired.
