Decadent Caramel Swirl Brownies

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, oil, cocoa, eggs, and milk until well blended.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of the chopped walnuts.

Spread two-thirds of the brownie batter into a greased 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake for 12 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a saucepan, melt the caramels and condensed milk over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Pour the caramel mixture over the partially baked brownie layer, then sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts.

Carefully drop the remaining brownie batter by teaspoonfuls over the caramel layer, then use a knife to gently swirl the batter into the caramel.
