Instructions
-
1
In a small saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, granulated sugar, honey, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, liquid smoke, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat and set aside 1 cup of the barbecue sauce to serve with the burgers.
-
2
In a large bowl, combine the egg, oats, 1/4 cup of the remaining barbecue sauce, onion salt, garlic salt, black pepper, and salt. Gently crumble the ground beef over the mixture and stir just until combined, being careful not to overmix. Wet your hands and shape the mixture into six equal-sized patties, being careful not to pack them too tightly.

Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium heat. Grill the burgers, covered, for 5-6 minutes per side, basting the patties with the remaining 1/2 cup of barbecue sauce during the final 5 minutes of cooking, until a thermometer inserted into the center reads 160°F. Serve the burgers on the toasted buns with your desired toppings and the reserved barbecue sauce on the side.
