Tender Beef and Rice Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
Tender cabbage leaves are stuffed with a savory mixture of ground beef, rice, and aromatic seasonings, then simmered in a tangy tomato sauce for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Instructions
-
1
Remove the core from the cabbage and steam the 12 largest outer leaves until they are pliable and limp. Drain the leaves well.
-
2
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, beaten egg, salt-free seasoning, black pepper, and dried thyme. Mix the ingredients well until fully incorporated.
-
3
Place about 1/3 cup of the beef and rice mixture onto the center of each steamed cabbage leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll the leaf up completely to enclose the filling. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
-
4
Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls in a large skillet or Dutch oven. In a separate bowl, combine the tomato sauce, brown sugar, water, and lemon juice or vinegar. Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls.
-
5
Cover the skillet or Dutch oven and simmer the cabbage rolls for 1 hour, spooning the sauce over the rolls occasionally during the cooking time.
